19 Oct. 2004 :: New series logo unveiled

The official BBC Doctor Who website has unveiled the new 2005 series logo:

According to the BBC it "was created by the Graphic Design team at BBC Wales, with Insect Design working on the background."

They go on to suggest that "you'll be seeing it in action on screen, online, and in print next year."

Apparently they have already applied for a trademark on the new logo.

22 July 2004 :: Exclusive - TARDIS on new series set photos

As mentioned yesterday our webmaster Roger Anderson made the trip to Cardiff last night to view and photograph filming of the new Doctor Who series.

We will present later today a full set report and many photographs of the nights events but we just had to add the two photos linked to below, they show, for perhaps the first time, the TARDIS on set for filming of the new show.

The first shot shows the prop being built, the second is a nice shot of the finished TARDIS standing in the street.

21 July 2004 :: Filming starts in Cardiff

Filming of the new Doctor Who series has started with various location shoots in Cardiff city centre.

Online reports and information from fans who have seen the filming have confirmed that location filming appears to have started on Sunday the 18th of July. According to media reports it is set to continue until at least early in the morning of the 22nd of July.

Additionally a 5 minute (approx.) news item filmed at the location shoot appeared on BBC Wales Today; this included a live interview session with Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper and Russell T Davies. This can be seen on the BBC Doctor Who website.

As yet we have little to report from the press but we do have some cuttings from the Welsh press which will be added here over the next few days along with anything else that is printed.

Your intrepid webmaster intends to head off to Cardiff later tonight to see what's going on and hopefully snap some photographs from the location shoot - more on this tomorrow! (If anyone is in the area tonight and fancies popping down to say hello please do - e-mail me first though so I know to look out for you.)

03 July 2004 :: No Daleks in new series!

Ex-ter-min-ated!

Following much speculation in the UK press and media an official BBC news report, dated Friday the 2nd of July, has confirmed that the Daleks will not be appearing in the first season of the new Doctor Who series which will star Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and Billie Piper as companion Rose.

A BBC spokeswoman is quoted as saying, "After lengthy negotiations, the BBC and Terry Nation have been unable to reach an agreement on the terms of the use of the Daleks."

The Terry Nation estate, who own the rights to Daleks are reported as saying that they are "bitterly disappointed" and new series producer and writer, Russell T Davies, commented "we are disappointed that the Daleks will not be included but we have a number of new and exciting monsters".

The news has also been reported on the websites of The Sun and The Guardian newspapers and doubtless more newspapers will also pick up on the story. We will update the Cuttings Archive with press cuttings and information as and when it appears.
